Walk of the Month

We have teamed up the the National Parks Association (N.P.A) to give you the opportunity to participate in a free guided bushwalk.

The 'Walk of the Month' is a great chance to try something new, or revisit an old favorite.

Its your choice. You can either....

  1. Join in a free guided walk, or
  2. Walk it yourself (with some friends).
Walk of the Month during May
Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach Sorry Bookings are now closed Sat 25 May 2013, 10:00 AM
Time: 3 hrs Walking time
Please allow extra time to rest and to explore
2.1 km SSE of Mosman
Length: 6.8 km Walk Length
As this is a One Way walk, the 6.8 km only includes the walking distance from the start to the end point
Sydney Harbour National Park
Climb: 328 m Total Climbing
This walk has a total cumulative climb of 328 m, this is the total of the elevation gains made in each of the walks uphill sections
There is car access and parking near the start and end of this walk There is a bus stop within 2km of the start and end of this walk There is a ferry stop near the start of this walk
Style: One way
Track: Hard

This walk explores a great section of Sydney Harbour. The walk starts at the Taronga Zoo ferry wharf with views of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The spectacular views continue as you explore bushland and the bays along the way. The walk also explores a historic section of the harbour, including the fortifications at Bradley's Head and Chowder Bay. Some sections of this walk are closed at night. There are a few places to get food along the way, and many great places to eat your own packed lunch.

Extra Details
* Where to meet:
We will meet outside the ferry wharf at the lower end of Taronga Zoo, at the end of Athol Wharf Rd.
* Getting Back to the start of the walk: After the walk you can catch a bus home, but if you want to get back to the start it is about 45 min walk via the streets.
There is an opportunity to grab an ice-cream or coffee along the way, so bring some extra money if you would like.


Walk of the Month during June
Blue Gum Walk (Joe's Mountain Circuit)

Time: 2 hrs Walking time
Please allow extra time to rest and to explore
1.2 km W of Hornsby
Length: 4.2 km Walk Length
As this is a Circuit style walk, the 4.2 km includes the walking distance from the start around the loop and back to the start again
Berowra Valley National Park
Climb: 231 m Total Climbing
This walk has a total cumulative climb of 231 m, this is the total of the elevation gains made in each of the walks uphill sections
There is car access and parking near the start and end of this walk There is a bus stop within 2km of the start and end of this walk
Style: Circuit
Track: Hard

This is an enjoyable circuit walk that allows you to explore this rare pocket of Sydney Blue Gum forest. You will follow a signposted track across a few creeks and alongside Waitara Creek, with a few cascades. There are many small sandstone caves and a great diversity in plant life along the way. Sit quietly on the bank of Waitara Creek and you may see a water dragon, or get going early and listen for the Lyrebirds.

* Where to meet:
At the end of Rosemead Rd, Hornsby near Lockinvar Place.
If you catch the train you can walk about 1km along the Great North Walk, down the steep hill, to the start of this walk.
* Getting Back to the start of the walk: This is a cicuit walk and will finish back where we start.
