Attracting over 3 million visitors annually, Blue Mountains National Park holds some of Australia's most spectacular and diverse wilderness areas. Explore the Grose Valley, with its sheer sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and scenic walking, or enjoy the famous views of the Three Sisters. Easy access makes a day trips very worthwhile, but with such diversity it would be great to stay in one of the many B&B's and spend a few days soaking up the region.
Great Place to Hike to and Camp there. Amazing views of the cliffs.
I had no idea how to get there, so if this is you now, here's some instructions on how to get to Acacia Flats from Perrys Lookdown.
Drive to Blackheath, (about 1.5 to 2 hours drive from Sydney CBD), then turn right onto Hat Hill Road.
After a few minutes the road becomes a gravel road, keep driving (slowly) for about 15 minutes all the way to the end of the road, don't turn anywhere, just keep going straight to the end. That is Perrys Lookdown.
There you'll see the track, there's only one, start walking down hill, it will take 2.5 to 3 hour to get to the bottom where the Blue Gum forest is, you'll see a big Map. Turn right and walk for another 5 to 10 minutes and there's Acacia Flats.
Cheers :-)
If you are not taking a tent i.e. just a fly and groundsheet, ensure you keep all food packed away or in a bag hanging from a tree away from your sleeping area. There are a number of bandicoot burrows in the area and they will raid your bags, even nibble at your sleeping bag. (I woke up to goose down everywhere). Worst night sleep I'd had in a long time.
Planning on spending a couple of days at the campsite over new years, is there any swimming holes within 4 or 5 kms?
Thanks.
Hi Brodie
Not so much swimming holes, but the river beside the campsite is normally fairly shallow and wide. When it is not in flood, it s nice place to cool off and splash around, but not deep enough for swimming as such.
Enjoy.
