Heavy seas, swell and high winds are currently impacting our costal parks. Rock shelves, beaches and estuary crossings across may be dangerous and impassable. Exercise extreme caution and consider postponing your visit this year.
There has already been multiple deaths associated with rock fishing in similar conditions this year.
- Many creek crossings, roads and trails are closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions.
- Roads are likely to be cut off and there is a high risk of flash flooding
- high rainfall and storms / heavy rain, damaging winds and widespread flooding risks across the area.
- Emergency services are requesting that people avoid unnecessary travel.
Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. In life-threatening situations call emergency services on Triple Zero (000).
For more information, contact the local park office on (02) 4476 0800 or via email at [email protected]
Closed areas: Public Notice – Upgrade Works to Picnic Point Campground
The National Parks and Wildlife Service is undertaking essential upgrade works in Mimosa Rocks National Park within the Picnic Point campground.
The construction project includes replacing the fencing and bollards within the campground.
Construction works will commence Tuesday 10th June 2025 and are expected to be completed by Monday 15th July 2025 – subject to weather and construction timelines. For public safety, the Picnic Point campground will be closed during this time.
Alternative locations that provide a similar experience for park users include the Aragunnu and Middle Beach campgrounds.
For more information, you can contact: National Parks and Wildlife Service, Narooma Area Office on: (02) 4476 0800.
Safety alerts: Gillards Beach access steps closed until further notice
The 5 southern beach access points and the day-use steps at Gillards Campground are currently closed due to severe erosion. Successive large seas have removed large amounts of sand from the beach resulting in these access points being unusable.
Park users staying in sites 1 to 28 should use the beach access steps to the north instead which is easily accessible via a short walk.
Beach access steps for sites 28 to 39 currently remain open.
For more information, contact the local NPWS office on 02 4476 0800
