Mount Wood camping ground
There is a signposted walk of the historic Mount Wood Homestead Complex. There are plenty of kangaroos in the area.

The following areas are closed due to heavy rainfall & Transport NSW road closures.
- Gorge Loop Road,
- Mt Wood, Olive Downs, and Fort Grey Campgrounds
- Mt Wood Homestead & Shearer’s Quarters
- Middle Road
- Jump Up Loop Road
- Many creek crossings & roads are closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions.
- Roads are likely to be cut off and there is a high risk of flash flooding.
- These areas will re-open as soon as they are safe.
This alert will be updated when conditions change.
Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. Fort Grey Campground is currently undergoing construction for new campground facilities from Thursday 28th March to the 11th April 2025

Other planned events: Night Ground Pest Control Operations
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) personnel will be conducting a nighttime (6pm – 6am) ground pest control operation on Sturt National Park from 11th February 2025 to the 31st October 2025.

Fire bans: Solid fuel fire ban for Sturt National Park
There is a ‘no solid fuel fire policy’ in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They’re under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There’s an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
